Think Air Fresheners Are Cleaning The Indoor Air?

One of my favorite environmental nonprofits, the Environmental Working Group (EWG), did a study on the ingredients in some conventional air fresheners and other cleaning products, particularly ones used in schools.

And, it’s worth mentioning that children are certainly a more vulnerable population due to their smaller developing bodies and brains and how quickly they are growing.

Look what EWG said about this product, “Febreze Air Effects released 89 air contaminants, the third highest number released by any product tested. One of these chemicals is linked to cancer, another to neurotoxicity”.

So, what’s in it?

The most toxic ingredients (the ones that got the highest toxicity score from EWG) are:

1. BHT (neurotoxin, among other things)

2. ACETALDEHYDE (cancer causing…)

3. “Fragrance” (neurotoxin and more)

4. Propylene Glycol (cancer causing…)

5. 1,3-DICHLORO-2-PROPANOL [CAS: 96-23-1] (cancer causing and more)

Do you really want to breathe this stuff? Try an pure essential oil diffuser instead. Those plant oils actually have healing benefits.

This is a wonderful post! We have been telling people for years now to stay away from commercial air fresheners. They are full of awful chemicals!!
