Can Sun Exposure Actually PREVENT Cancer?
Not getting enough
ultraviolet radiation (sun exposure) may increase your
risk factor for cancer if you live in Western Europe and North America.
Yup,
I just said that not getting sun exposure might actually cause some
cancers.
Clearly this contradicts most of what we've been told about the
dangers of
sun exposure.
So what's up with that?
New research published in the prestigious Cancer
Journal by Dr. William
Grant looked at cancer mortality in the US. He found that deaths
from a
range of cancers were twice as high in New England as in the southwest.
There was little variation in diet between the two regions. Apparently
there
was a "close inverse correlation between cancer mortality levels
and
ultraviolet B light." In other words, the more sunlight the
person received, the
lower the cancer mortality. Researchers believe that vitamin D from
the sun
has a protective effect. Our bodies synthesize vitamin D in the
presence
of ultraviolet B. Those of us living in the Northeast are not getting
enough
vitamin D from the sun, especially in the winter.
The 13 types of malignancies most affected were
the reproductive and
digestive cancers. The strongest inverse correlation is with breast,
colon,
and ovarian cancer. Other cancers affected by sunlight are: tumors
of the
bladder, uterus, esophagus, rectum, and stomach.
But what about skin cancer, you might be
wondering?
According to Dr. Joseph Mercola and others,
it's the high ratio of
Omega 6 fats in our diets that put us at a higher risk for skin
cancer
when exposed to excess sun. What's an Omega 6 oil? Most vegetables
are high in Omega 6. Fats from corn oil, safflower, sunflower, sesame
and other oils are virtually 100 percent Omega 6 oils. If you eat
too
many of these fats, you distort your Omega 3 and Omega 6 ratio,
and
the imbalance of this ratio is one of the keys to getting any type
of cancer,
especially skin cancer.
The Solution?
Reduce Omega 6 oils, and increase Omega 3's.
The ideal ratio is 1:1.
Most Americans have a 15:1 ratio.
High quality fish oil is an excellent source
of Omega 3's. The Carlson
brand is supposed to be the best. In the winter switch to Carlson's
cod
liver oil, which contains natural vitamin D. I've tried the one
that has
a lemon flavor, and it doesn't gag me, like others I've tried. It's
actually
quite pleasant. Not all vitamins D's are the same either. The vitamin
D
found in milk and other food products is synthetic. The one in cod
liver
oil is a natural source, like the sun. Go for the natural source.
Sun exposure-wise, it's best to start out with
ten minutes per day without
sunscreen in the beginning of the season. Then you can gradually
increase
your time without burning. The key is to not burn. Use clothing
to block
the sun during your build-up time. Dark skinned people need ten
to
twenty times more sun exposure than lighter skinned people to build
up the same amount of vitamin D.
To sunscreen or not to sunscreen, that is
the question!
If you like to spend a lot of time outdoors,
you may need to use sunscreen.
Dr. Mercola and I believe that Aubrey Organics makes the safest
and most
natural sunscreen. (Aubrey Organics sunscreen-to get SPF 25, click
here,
and for SPF 8, click
here. All the others, even the ones marketed as natural,
contain toxic chemicals that you definitely don't want to be absorbing
into
your skin. For instance, Octyl methoxycinnamate (OMC), present in
90%
of sunscreen brands, was found to kill mouse cells in a study by
Norwegian scientists
Other studies have found that sunscreens penetrate
the skin significantly.
They don't just sit on the surface of your skin without any effect.
And think
about how many times you must reapply it if you are swimming or
sweating,
or out for long periods of time. Too much sun is no good, it can
lead to skin
damage and possible skin cancer.
So, how do you know you're getting the right
amount of sun?
· The further north you are the less
UV-B (burning and vitamin D
producing) rays there are. The higher your altitude, the more you
are getting.
· The darker your skin pigment, the less
the UV-B penetrates.
· Clouds and pollution can both block
UV-B rays.
· Virtually no UV-B is available in the
winter months in the US.
· Use Aubrey Organics sunscreen-- to

here: , and for
· SPF 8, click

If you do get a burn, here's what to do:
· If you've been in a chlorine pool,
shower off and pat your skin dry.
· Take a cool bath (not cold).
· Apply fresh aloe vera directly from the plant to your burnt
skin.
· Cool sugarless tea bags around sensitive areas, like eyes,
soothe. It's the tannin in the tea that does the job.
2. How Do They Sleep
At Night?
The Negative Vaccine Effects Cover Up
Ten years ago my friend carried her infant daughter
into a local pediatrician's office for a checkup. She started to
ask the doctor about vaccinations, but before she could finish her
sentence, the doctor nearly leaped onto the desk and started sputtering
about "some woman, Amy Todisco (yup, that's me), who has frightened
parents about vaccines with her recent letter to the editor in the
Marblehead Reporter (the local paper)." Apparently other parents
were also asking questions about vaccines.
Imagine a doctor having this type of reaction
to one letter to the editor from a concerned parent questioning
the risks versus the perceived benefits of vaccination. Apparently
I pushed a button. The gall of a mother publicly asking questions
about the safety of vaccines and encouraging other concerned parents
to do their own research. Let's not forget that immunizations are
the bread and butter of most pediatricians' practices. Most of all,
my friend wanted to be reassured by this doctor that vaccines were
truly beneficial, instead she left
frightened.
What if most of what we have been told about
the safety and effectiveness of vaccines was a lie? Well, according
to Dr. Robert S. Mendelsohn "Much of what we have been told
about vaccinations simply isn't true
The greatest threat of
childhood diseases lies in the dangerous and ineffectual efforts
made to prevent them through mass immunization."
In his book, "How To Raise A Healthy Child
In
Spite of Your Doctor" Dr.
Mendelsohn also said, "I not only have grave misgivings
about them
(vaccines); if I were to follow my deep convictions in writing this
chapter,
I would urge you to reject all inoculations for your child."
Like many doctors, my friend's pediatrician
probably told her that the decline
of the major diseases is a result of vaccination. What he didn't
tell her (and
maybe didn't even know) is that all of those diseases were in
massive decline BEFORE vaccinations began. In fact, these same
diseases had already declined by 90% in Europe without any mass
vaccination program. Improved sanitation was key.
Believe it or not, vaccines themselves are
actually causing some of the
disease outbreaks. For instance, Dr. Jonas Salk, who pioneered
the first polio
vaccine, pointed out that the Sabin polio vaccine is causing
most of the polio
cases that appear. And for thirty years kids died from smallpox
vaccinations
even though they were no longer threatened by the disease.
My friend's pediatrician probably assured her
that vaccines were thoroughly
tested and were safe and effective. "Yet these assumptions
are directly
contradicted by government statistics, published medical studies,
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) reports, and the opinions of credible research scientists
from around the world", according to Reverend Alan Phillips,
Director of Citizens for Healthcare
Freedom.
Dr. Sherri Tenpenny stated in her video, "
Vaccines: What CDC Documents
and Science Reveal ", that tests on vaccines don't even
follow the standard
"double blind placebo" protocol. Normally, a new vaccine
would be tested
against something safe and inert like purified water. Instead, new
vaccines are
tested against older vaccines that are already in use. Plus, there
hasn't been any study to compare disease rates in vaccinated people
versus unvaccinated, so there really isn't any scientific proof
that vaccinations have protected people from diseases.
The idea of administering a vaccine directly
into the bloodstream via the muscle tissue of a vulnerable infant
or child whose immune system is just building is questionable at
best. If that same child were to contract that disease naturally,
those germs would enter his/her body through the skin, nose, mouth,
or ears and meet up with the body's natural defense system. By injecting
it, along with countless toxic preservatives and additives, directly
into the bloodstream, the immune system isn't able to do it's job
normally. It also doesn't allow the infant/child's body to reduce
the dose received as it would if the disease were naturally acquired.
There's also a "one size fits all"
dosing practice. A 10 pound two month old gets the same dose
of a vaccine as a 40 pound 5 year old. Random tests on the number
of "units" in a vaccine found that there is a quality
control issue. A vaccine may have 1/3 to 3 times what the label
indicates.
There is a commonly held, yet faulty belief
that just because someone has the antibodies for a disease in their
bloodstream, that this means they're protected from that disease.
Not true. If it were, then fully vaccinated people would not
be getting the diseases they've been vaccinated against. In
fact, Rev. Alan Phillips said that outbreaks in recent years have
recorded more disease cases in vaccinated children than in unvaccinated
children.
Reverend Philips also said that "Doctors
in the U.S. report thousands of
serious vaccine reactions each year including hundreds of deaths
and
permanent disabilities, fully vaccinated populations have experienced
epidemics, and researchers attribute dozens of chronic immunological
and neurological diseases that have risen dramatically in recent
decades
to mass immunization campaigns".
Isn't it interesting that the flyer for the
DPT vaccine stated that the chance of a serious adverse reaction
from the vaccine was 1 in 1750, whereas the chance of
dying from pertussis was 1 in several million. I'll take my
chances with pertussis, thank you.
Experts estimate that only 1-10% of the actual
adverse vaccine reactions
are actually reported to the National Vaccine Injury Compensation
Program.
Even the FDA estimates that approximately 1% of serious adverse
reactions
to vaccines are reported. The CDC admits that maybe only about 10%
of
these events are reported. Can you believe that Congress has
heard testimony that medical students are told not to report suspected
adverse events? Wow, who's looking out for our best interests?
And President Bush and his administration have been working to relieve
vaccine manufacturers from
any liability from these adverse reactions.
But it gets worse
recently
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wrote an article entitled
"Deadly Immunity". Vaccines are not a topic that he usually
speaks about,
but he found out something so heinous he felt the need to inform
us all. Here's
the story:
In June of 2000, a secret meeting was held to
discuss the disturbing results of
a study that raised alarming questions about the safety of a number
of common
childhood vaccines. The meeting, which was not publicly announced,
was
attended by a group of top government scientists and health officials
from
the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA), a top vaccine specialist from the World Health Organization
(WHO),
and representatives from every major vaccine manufacturer, such
as:
GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Wyeth, and Aventis Pasteur. The meeting
was
"embargoed", which meant that no one could take notes,
make photocopies
of any documents, or leave with any written materials. Why all the
secrecy?
According to CDC epidemiologist, Tom Verstraeten,
who analyzed the
medical records of 100,000 children, the mercury based vaccine preservative,
Thimersol, seemed to be responsible for a dramatic increase in autism
and a host of other neurological disorders among children. He was
actually stunned by what he saw.
Since 1991, when the CDC and FDA recommended
that 3 additional vaccines
containing Thimersol were given to extremely young infants (one
within
hours of birth), the estimated number of autism cases increased
15-fold.
It used to be 1 in every 2,500 children had autism, now it was 1
in every 166!
At this point, most of us would have expected
that this secret group would
make plans to immediately alert the public, and get the Thimersol
out of
the vaccine supply. Quite the opposite happened. According to
transcripts
obtained by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), most of the people
at the meeting were more concerned with damage control and how this
information would affect the vaccine manufacturer's bottom line.
In other
words, these people knew that Thimersol was causing a huge leap
in autism cases and other neurological disorders, and instead of
stopping the madness, they wanted to hide the truth so none of the
manufacturers would lose any money. Clearly, human health is
not the priority, money is.
Dr. Bob Chen, head of vaccine safety for the
CDC said, "given the sensitivity
of the information we have been able to keep it out of the hands
of, let's say,
less responsible hands." And the award for most despicable
goes to
Dr.
John Clements, vaccine advisor to the WHO. He declared flatly that
the study "should not have been done at all" and warned
that the results "will be taken by others and will be used
in ways beyond the control of this group. The research results have
to be handled".
Do you have any trust or respect for these people?
I sure don't. How do
they sleep at night?

My personal belief is that building our immune
system is the most important
feature of good health. Not everyone exposed to a disease gets that
disease.
Why? Because some people's immune systems are stronger than others.
Eating certified organic food, using truly organic and natural products,
regular exercise, a good night's sleep, natural remedies, and laughter,
are
some of the tools I use to stay healthy.

Potato Chips Are Worse Than We Thought
Potato chip eaters, I hope you're sitting down
when you read this
Have you ever heard of a chemical called acrylamide?
It's a cancer-causing
chemical that is formed when starchy foods, like potatoes, are baked
or fried at high temperatures. Potato chips, french fries, and coffee-which
is roasted before being brewed-are among the biggest sources of
acrylamide in the average American diet. Acrylamide is even in baby
food products.
"On April 24, 2002, researchers at the
Swedish National Food Administration
and Stockholm University reported finding the chemical acrylamide
in a
variety of fried and oven-baked foods" according to the United
States Food
and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition
website.
The California based Environmental Law Foundation has filed notices
with
the state attorney general against potato chip manufacturers:
· Lay's
· PepsiCo Inc.
· Pringles
· Cape Cod Chip maker
· Kettle Chips
The attorney general wants them to place labels
on their products warning
consumers about the high levels of acrylamide inside their products.
How high were the levels?
Cape Cod's Robust Russet chips had 910 times
the state of California's
required warning level for acrylamide.
Kettle Chips, lightly salted had 505 times the
level.
Kettle Chips, honey Dijon had 495 times the level
Pringles Snack Stacks, pizza flavored had 170 times the level, and
Lay's Baked chips had 150 times the level.
FDA-tested foods that had the highest levels
of acrylamide include
Pringles Sweet Mesquite BBQ Flavored Potato Crisps, Folgers Classic
Roast coffee, Wheatena Toasted Wheat Cereal, and Ore Ida Crispers.
The FDA tested a variety of foods for acrylamide.
They created four food
baskets, one from each region of the country (West, North Central,
South,
and Northeast). Samples of foods were collected from supermarkets
and fast
food restaurants, prepared and table ready, and then analyzed.
Here's some of what they found:
Potato chips had anywhere from 264-536 parts
per billion (ppb) of
acrylamide in them.
In contrast, baked potatoes without skin had
none.
Baked potatoes with skin had 17-32 ppb.
French fries had 381-450ppb.
Baby teething biscuits had 128-235 ppb.
Even chocolate chip cookies had 81-168 ppb.
Yikes!
So, what's considered a safe amount of acrylamide?
The EPA won't allow more than .5ppb in
food or water.
A similar example occurs when meats are cooked
at high temperatures.
In that case, heterocylcic amines can be formed. Cooking the food
from
below seems to make it worse (as with a grill).
What to do?
Short of eating all of your food raw
seriously
limit your intake of fried
foods and foods cooked with high temperatures. That goes for things
like
toast too-don't burn your toast. If you do, send it to the compost
pile.
I don't mean to scare
you with these articles about food dangers, but what
we eat and the products that we use at home have a significant impact
on
our health. The less toxic the food and household products you buy
and
use, the better off you and everyone in your home will be, including
your
domestic pets.
