Amy's Opinion: I've
become such a big fan of Ayurveda, traditional Indian medicine.
Chances are you've heard of Dr. Deepak Chopra. He's one of the people
that brought this wonderful healing medicine to us in the West.
Back in late October I found out that I had a uterine fibroid. Though
it's hereditary (other women in my family have had them), I've always
been free of any health complaints, so I was kind of shocked. Rather
than go through the western approach to dealing with a fibroid (especially
without any big symptoms) I chose to see an Ayurvedic practitioner
and got some cranial sacral energy work. I've been taking the Women's
Formula and the Triphala (started with the stronger Triphala Gugulu),
and 2-3 doses of organic reishi mushroom extract per day, and 1
teaspoon of organic cod liver oil . I've also used a castor oil
pack with a hot water bottle on my abdomen, and when I think of
it, I do some self massage. I'm happy to say that the fibroid shrinks
done to the point of being undetectable to me at the point in my
cycle where my estrogen is the lowest, and it gets a little bit
bigger during the hormone build up to ovulation. Please seek out
an Ayurvedic practioner in your area for advice, as I'm only sharing
my experience, not giving out medical advice.

Commentary:
Triphala is recommended and used more than any other Ayurvedic herbal
formulation. Popular for its unique ability to gently cleanse and
detoxify the system while simultaneously replenishing and nourishing
it, this traditional formula supports the proper functions of the
digestive, circulatory, respiratory and genitourinary systems. Translated
as "three fruits" it is composed of the dried fruits of
amalaki, bibhitaki and haritaki. Containing five of the six tastes
(all but salty), Triphala readily removes excess vata, pitta and
kapha from the body, bringing balance and proper functioning to
the system. It is commonly taken as a daily supplement to help maintain
balance of the doshas.*
